U.S.A. REPUBLICAN CONVENTION DECLARATION OF FOREIGN POLICY. AID TO THE DEMOCRACIES. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. PHILADELPHIA, June 26. The names of Thomas E. Dewey, District Attorney of New York County, Frank E. Gannett, a Rochester newspaper publisher. Wendell Wilkie, director' of a number of public utility concerns. and Senator Robert A. Taft, Ohio, were officially presented for consideration as Presidential nominee at the convention of the Republican Party. Mr Dewey received an ovation lasting for 26 minutes, and Senator Taft and Mr Willkie ovations lasting 18 minutes. Mr Gannett had practically no ovation. The convention went into recess till tomorrow, when six other names will be proposed, following which balloting wil Ibegin. The resolutions committee completed the Republican foreign policy plank as follows: — “The party is firmly opposed to involving this nation in a foreign war. The party stands for Americanism, preparedness and peace. We accordingly fasten on the New Deal the full responsibility for our unpreparedness and for the consequences of involvement in war. “We declare for prompt, orderly and realistic building of the national defence to the point where we will be able to defend the United States and its possessions and essential outposts from a foreign attack, and also efficiently uphold in war the Monroe Doctrine. “We pledge such aid to the democracies as shall not be in violation of international law oi' inconsistent with the requirements of our own defence.” can platform, including the foreign The convention adopted the Republipolicy plank. .
