Already besieged by a rush of Dominion residents seeking permits to return home from the United Kingdom, Australia House and New Zealand House have received thousands of inquiries from parents anxious to send their children to Australia and New Zealand. There have also been hundreds of inquiries from women, many of whom are trained nurses, who are eager to act as escorts. New Zealand House had one inquiry from a school of 280 children which wishes to migrate eh bloc, together with its teacher s. The Children’s Overseas Reception Scheme Committee is receiving applications at the rate of 7,000 to 8.000 daily. It is authoritatively stated that when evacuation begins the number of children removeable safely from the United Kingdom probably will not exceed 8,000 monthly. Shipping problems present the greatest difficulty. Arrangements to evacuate children to the Dominions are part of an organised plan to convert Britain into an island fortress. It is essential that the greatest possible number of non-combatants should be removed.
