GREYTOWN

SOLDIERS’ PARTY GATHERING AT MORISON'S BUSH.. (“Times-Age” Special.) There was a large attendance at the Morison's Bush Hall last night when the guests of honour were Privates R. Tully, J. Sullivan and B. Nix of the special force. The gathering was organised by the bachelors and spinsters of the district. The euchre prizes were won by Mrs Mclntosh and Mr W. Hutchings. Mr and Mrs O'Neale won the Monte Carlo.

Mr W. Svenson acted as M.C. and the music was supplied by Te Tau’s orchestra. Extras were played by Mrs King, Messrs Ray Ingley, A. Morris and H. Moran.

The Mayor of Greytown (Mr A. W. Horton) congratulated the guests on their example and sense of duty, and their willingness to give their lives if need. be. Mr Horton said that the evacuation from Gallipoli had been a wonderful feat, but the Dunkirk withdrawal had proved to the world that the spirit of Anzac still lived. He had every confidence that these young men would uphold the good name of New Zealand and wished them God Speed.

Mr Horton presented each soldier with a diary and fountain pen from the residents, of the Borough and district.

Mr H. G. Carter extended good wishes on behalf of the Returned Soldiers' Association.

In replying the soldiers expressed their appreciation of the gifts and their thanks to those who had organised the function.
