CARDS AND DANCING

HIBERNIAN SOCIETY GATHERING. The dance and card tournament held in St Patrick’s Hall last evening under the auspices of the Masterton Hibernian Society proved the most successful and enjoyable held this season. There was a large attendance of both dancers and card players. These functions are proving very popular and are looked forward to with pleasure. The music for the dancing was supplied by J. Barnes’s Rhythm Boys and extras were played by Miss J. Gleeson and Miss N. Clarke, Mr To Tau playing the eflocts for thees dances. The Lucky Spot waltzing competitions were won by Miss O. Gorringe and Mr M. De Muth, and Miss H. Sutherland and Mr P. Rollings res-, pectively. The Monte Carlo competition was won by Miss J. Floyd and Mr M. Graham. Mr T. Apa and Mr J. McDonald were the M's.C. In the card tournament the winners were: Ladiest Mrs D. Deegan: men. Mr W. McArley. Consolation prizes wore awarded to Mrs Wilton and Mr P. Flynn. The supper arrangements were in the hands of a capable ladies’ committee.

The Society propose to hold another of these gatherings on July 10.
