MAGISTRATE’S COURT
SITTING IN MASTERTON. CHARGES AGAINST MOTORISTS.' The fortnightly sitting of the Masterton Magistrate's Court was hold this morning. Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M.. being on the bench. The following business was dealt with: — Leo George McCracken was fined £1 and 10s costs on a charge of having operated a motor vehicle on the Mas-terton-Gladstone highway without a warrant of fitness.
Charged with having negligently driven a motor vehicle in Queen Street on May 11, 1940, Henry Ronald Cross was fined LT and 10s costs.
On the information of the. Borough Traffic Inspector, Mr J. McGregor, Cyril Minifie, Charles Tagg, J. P. Hornabrook and Roy Mace were each fined £1 and 10s costs on charges of operating vehicles without carrying warrants of fitness.
Roger C. Bahout. George Edwards and Sydney Harris were each fined 10s and 10s costs, and Beatrice Warring 10s and 12s costs, for failing to have current drivers’ licenses. Inspector McGregor prosecuted. “There is no need for motorists to wait until the last minute to renew their drivers' licenses,” said Mr Lawry. when pointing out that local authorities allowed motorists plenty of time before the penalty date fell due. CIVIL CLAIMS. Judgment for plaintiff by default was giveij in the following undefended civil claims: — Masterton Investment Co, Ltd v Norman R. Long, claim £2l 17s. costs £4 4s 6d; Iva Gordon v C. F. Brough, claim £2, costs £1 3s 6d; Wairarapa Radios Ltd v E. G. Harrison, claim £6 7s 6d. costs £1 10s 6d: N. Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co Ltd v Kenneth Robert McLeod claim £2 2s. costs 13s 6d: Wairarapa Radios v Major Mason, claim £39 18s 6d. costs £3 10s 6d. In a judgment summons order. H. M. Robertson was ordered to pay J. Graham and Co Ltd the sum of £6 17s 3d. in default live days' imprisonment.
