WIN THE WAR

CONTRIBUTION BY FARMERS ALL TRACTORS & PLOUGH TEAMS MUST BE USED. APPEAL BY MR H. MORRISON The need for all tractors and plough teams in the Wairarapa to be put to the' best possible use was emphasised by the chairman of the Wairarapa Farmers’ Win-the-War Committee, Mr H. Morrison, in a statement today. “There are 323 tractors in the Wairarapa,” said Mr Morrison, "and today, many of them are sleeping in the sheds. There is a lack of realisation of what is necessary and what can be done. Our quota of ploughing allocated by the. Department of Agriculture, is 25,000 acres to be sown as follows: ■ —Barley, 5000 acres; wheat, 1500 acres; oats, 4500 acres; rape, 7000 acres; turnips and swedes, 7000 acres. We ask farmers with tractors and plough teams to get to work immediately. Farmers are to have the option of using their ploughable ' land and their tractors and teams for the salvation of the Homeland, but if immediate action is not taken, more drastic methods may be used. In view of the seriousness of the production position, it is necessary to use all tractors and teams to the full, and where full use is not made the committee may require their use elsewhere.”
