A good many old-timers are prepared to assert that Liberator was a belter all-rounder than Record Reign, while plenty of moderns champion the claims of Padishah. Liberator's record on the flat included a Dunedin Cup witli 8.3. Manawatu Cup with 8.9. Wanganui Cup with 8.9, D.J.C. Handicap with 9.0. and other races, and he was third in a New Zealand Cup with 7.10. As a hurdler he won tht Grand National Hurdles with 10.10. a hurdle race at Auckland with 12.8, Grand National Hurdles again with 12.0. Great Northern Hurdles with 12.9. Great Northern Steeplechase with 11.12, and hurdles races at Dunedin with 12.12, 13.0. and 13.5. Padishah's best Hat performances were to win the Wellington Cup with 7.9, and the Metropolitan with 8.8. Over obstacles he has captured the Grand National Hurdles with 10.5 and 11.1, and the Grand National Steeplechase with 11.5. being the only horse to account for the National double. Padishah has not carried the weights borne by Liberator and Record Reign, but he has registered much faster times. It is not possible to make more than theoretical comparisons of the merits of the three horses named, and the admirers of each are not likely to be shaken in their allegiance, unless Padishah again wins the double at the weights he is. likely to receive in August.

Doing Satisfactory Work. Old Bill All Quiet and Golden Moon go through routine work satisfactorily. A trip across the Tasman was mapped out. for Old BiU, but the present stalo of affairs will most likely result in his remaining in the Dominion. He looks the picture of health, and reads- at any time to commence a serious preparation.

Handicapping of Gladynev. The "Sydney Morning Herald." commenting on discro|tai’cies in tin 1 handicapping for the big spring races, deals with the treatment of the New Zealand horse Gladynev. wiio has been handicapped 8.0 for the Metropolitan, 8.4 for the Melbourne Cup. and 6.7 for the Caulfield Cup. It adds that the Wellington Centennial Cup gives the My to the form. Old Dill. 80. won from Beau Vite. 8.7. and Gladynev. 7.11. For the Melbourne Clip the weights are: Old Bill. 8.12. Beau Vite 9.1 Gladynev 8.4. In the Caulfield Cup the imposts are 8.12, 9.0 and 6.7 respectively.
