It is officially stated that Japanese, troops have begun Io occupy areas contiguous to Hong Kong’s border. There is no cause for alarm. Small Japanese forces landed at Namtau and are proceeding to Shumchun. Japanese from south Kwangsi are reported to be moving toward Indo-China, as others have completed the occupation of the areas adjacent to Hong Kong’s mainland. The movement is described officially as an operation against guerrillas. Police manned the British frontier during the day, but at nightfall truckloads of troops moved to the border.
