In an address on careers for boys Mr Shedden said that preparation for a career was of the utmost importance. “The boy" was the central figure, but the parents and teacher always had duties to perform by co-operating tc the fullest extent for the ultimate benefit of the child. He urged parents to consult with the teacher not only at the end of the primary school term but also regularly during progress through the lower classes. Mr Shedden gave an outline of the work entailed by the teachers and how the interest and activities of the child in all branches of school work indicated generally where his energies should be directed. He further detailed how the school made certain by co-opera-tion with parents and the child the course of study in the secondary department that would give the maximum assistance in his search of a career. The importance of an aim in life was stressed, so that the child having a definite object in view would be able to work with more concentration and with a sincerity of purpose. Finally he expressed the conviction that the young men of today who had relinquished their careers to devote thenenergies to carrying the war to a successful conclusion, would uphold the good name of the Dominion, and he hoped that before long they would again be able to take their part in civil life.
