The definition of a cygnet as “a young swan unable to sustain flight'’ has been made by the Waimate Acclimatisation Society in reply to an inquiry from the Department of Internal Affairs. The secretary of the J society, Mr J. C. Winning, reported to 'V the annual meeting that the society had asked for a regulation prohibiting the shooting of cygnets, upon which the request for a definite designation of a cygnet had been made. He added that the society hoped to get the regulation passed before next season. On Saturday night next Woolworths will hold their annual dance in the Y.M.C.A. An excellent programme has been arranged and a good night's entertainment is assured. Particulars are advertised in this issue. The proceeds will be given to the Patriotic Funds.
