CALM PREPARATION
IN PROGRESS IN PARIS SURVEY OF THE FIGHTING FRONT. FIRMLY HELD FROM END TO END. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 11.40 a.m.) PARIS, June 10. The city'is-calmly preparing for any eventuality. An orderly evacuation of all businesses whose work can be conducted elsewhere is in progress. , A military spokesman stated that at present, when General Weygand’s order is to stand fast, the High Command has given a fresh order. It is important, seeing that the fighting has taken on the character of a war of movement and that the enemy is on the lookout for even the slightest information —not to give in commentary any more details than are embodied in a communique. Three important points can be emphasised: Firstly, the French front, with fluctuations of movement to the rear and the hunting of stray enemy tanks, is holding from one end to the other, from the coast to the Argonne. The commanders of the various forces have retained a complete mastery over operations of manoeuvre. Secondly, the French soldiers are fighting like the Verdun heroes. Thirdly, the reference in General Weygand’s order yesterday to the last quarter of an hour is explained by the exceptional wear and tear which German material is undergoing. German tanks, particularly, will require early repair.”
