VISITING DEBATERS
PROGRAMME IN MASTERTON MANY ADDRESSES ARRANGED. The provisional programme covering the visit of the Australian debating team to Masterton shows that its members will have a particularly busy time. The members of the team are Messrs A. M. Jenkins and D. Campbell. The debaters who are due to arrive in Masterton at 4 p.m. today will be guests at the Optimist Club’s tea this evening at 5.15, when the subjects will be: Mr A. M. Jenkins. “Conscience and Society”; Mr D. Campbell “The Population Problem of Australia. ’ Tomorrow they will speak to the pupils of Wairarapa College between 11 and 12, Mr Jenkins on “The s Australian National Fitness Campaign,” and Mr Campbell on' “Australian Literature.” This will be followed by an address at the Rotary Club, between 12.15 and 1.30 p.m., Mr Jenkins on “Recent Developments in Labour in New South Wales, and Mr Campbell on “Australia’s War Effort.” At 2.30 p.m. they will be in attendance at St Matthew’s College, where the subjects will be: Mr Jenkins, “Australian National Fitness Campaign," Mr Campbell “The Population Problem of Australia.” At 7.30 p.m. there will be a public debate at the Wairarapa College Assembly Hall on: “That a nation’s commerce is of greater value that its culture.” The affirmative will be taken by Messrs J. E. Tier and J. Dwyer, of Masterton, and the negative by the Australians. The Rev John Davie will preside. On Thursday, between 9 and 10 a.m. the debaters will visit Solway College, where the subjects will be: Mr Jenkins. “Australian National Fitness Campaign,” and Mr Campbell “Australian Literature.” x
