The Prime Minister, Mr Mackenzie King, in a broadcast said. “Every port will become another Calais and every harbour another Dunkirk before we will surrender to Nazi brutality." He warned that hostilities may break out in "entirely new theatres of war," but. he asserted, "new and old friends will rise to help us.” "We are on a bridge between the old and new worlds, a bridge which joins the freedom of the North American Continent with the ancient freedom of Britain which gave it birth. We will stand resolute to defend its approaches' and abutments.” The Premier reviewed Canada’s war programme and claimed that the air training scheme would yet be a decisive instrument in victory.
The Department of Munitions Supply announced the construction of 300 heavy armoured tanks for use by Empire tank troops. They, will be similar to those at present used in Europe, and will weight 37 tons.
