GERMAN PUSH TOWARDS SEINE
Attempts to Cross River Defeated ATTACKS SLACKEN FURTHER EAST INDICATIONS OF SERIOUS ENEMY SETBACK (By Telegraph.—Press Association.—Copyright.) (Received This Day, 12.45 p.m.) PARIS June 9. The night communique states: “As announced in the morning communique, the enemy has extended his front of attack as far as the Argonne, while continuing his previous offensives. Diminishing his pressure against the Bresle, he has pushed armoured units in the region of Forges les Eaux and Argueil towards the regions of Rouen and Gisors. Some reconnaissance detachments have reached the outskirts of Rouen and Pont de L’Arche, where they vainly tried to cross the Seine.
“Further east, between Montdidier and Noyon, enemy attacks are much less incisive than they were last evening. It appears from numerous statements by prisoners that in this region the enemy suffered yesterday afternoon a serious setback, with considerable losses.’’
