IN NORTHERN WATERS
EARLY ADMIRALTY REPORT.
GERMANS CLAIM SINKING OF AIRCRAFT-CARRIER.
An Admiralty communique, broadcast by Daventry, states that information reaching the Admiralty appears to indicate that contact was made on June 8 between British and German naval forces in northern waters. No further statement can be given until details are in hand. The Germans claim to have sunk a British aircraft carrier.
NO ADMIRALTY COMMENT ON GERMAN CLAIMS. MORE SUCCESSES ALLEGED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 10.5 a.m.) LONDON, June 9. The German High Command stated that German naval units destroyed the troop transport Orama, also the air-craft-carrier Glorious. The British Admiralty does not comment. Our naval forces, operating in the North Sea, sank two destroyers, the oil tanker Pioneer and a submarinechaser, in addition to the Glorious and Orama. Several hundred Allied troops were taken prisoner. NO ANNOUNCEMENT PENDING RECEIPT OF FULL REPORTS. • ADMIRALTY DECISION. (Received This Day, 11.15 a.m.) LONDON, June 9. The Admiralty announced that it had received information appearing to indicate that there was contact yesterday between British and German naval forces in northern waters. No further statement will be made until full reports have been received.
