That men who enlisted for active service should be replaced in then civil employment by men not eligible for such service, was a proposal which met with approval at the meeting of the Southland Recruiting Committee. It was recommended that employers should be approached with a request that they should give effect to such a proposal as far as possible, in oidei that as many eligible men as possible could be released.
