FIRST V.C. OF WAR
AWARDED TO LATE CAPTAIN WARBURTON LEE. BRAVERY IN NARVIK BATTLE. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 10.15 a.m.) LONDON, June 7. The first Victoria Cross of the war has been awarded to the late Captain Warburton Lee, Commander of the destroyer flotilla which was engaged in the first battle of Narvik on April 10. Captain Warburton Lee displayed great gallantry, enterprise and daring in the first battle of Narvik, in which, as commander of a British destroyer flotilla, he engaged superior enemy forces. He was mortally wounded when a shell hit the bridge of the destroyer Hardy, which was run around in the fiord.
