MAURICEVILLE WEST

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE (“Times-Age” Special.) A meeting of the Mauriceville District Women’s Institute was held at the home of Mrs McArley when Mrs A. Forsberg presided over a fair attendance of members. It was unanimously decided to obtain a representative of the Red Cross Society to convene a district meeting of all ladies to form a sub-branch of the Red Cross Society for the purpose of knitting and sewing for those in distress in the war area. It is hoped that the meeting will be well attended and the result successful. A competition held during the afternoon was won by Miss J. Larsen. The competition for the best bloom was won by Miss R. Mortensen with Mrs G. Osborne second and Mrs Cameron third. The following programme was decided on for the July meeting to be held at Mauriceville West: Demonstration, First Aid to the Injured; competition, each member to represent a song; roll call, a wise economy in the home during war time. Members are requested to bring a shilling for the Soldiers' Parcel Fund. The hostesses, - Mesdames McArley and Bain were accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The meeting closed with the singing of God Save the King. Sewing Bee. The Mauriceville West ladies arc reminded of the sewing bee to be held on Saturday afternoon in the Foresters’ Hall at 1.30 p.m. Garments of all descriptions will be gratefully received. A parcel containing 60 articles has already been forwarded to the Red Cross Society. This is very satisfactory, but with the co-operation and help of every lady in the district thenext 'parcel can be increased considerably. Personal items. Miss M. Nikolaisen has returned from a holiday spent in Dunedin. Miss D. Palmer, Wanganui, spent the weekend with her parents, Mr and Mrs R. Palmer.
