The New York State Chamber of Commerce passed a resolution urging: “Every possible assistance to the Allies, amendment to the Neutrality Act, swift United States rearmament, close surveillance of subversive activities and registration of aliens.” An amendment removed a clause opposing the sending of an expedi-. tionary force.
GOVERNOR LEHMAN REPRESENTATIONS' MADE TO PRESIDENT. SUPPLY OF WAR EQUIPMENT. (Received This Day, 9.25 a.m.) WASHINGTON, June 6. Governor Lehman called at the White House and urged the furnishing of the Allies promptly with all the aeroplanes, equipment and supplies that can be spared. WAR ESSENTIALS SPEEDIER PRODUCTION ADVOCATED. CABLES FROM AMBASSADORS. (Received This Day, 10 a.m.) WASHINGTON, June 6. The White House reported that the American Ambassadors to Britain and France “are telephoning and cabling, urging the United States to speed up production of military essentials.” Officials declined to comment on reports that Mr Myron Taylor (American Envoy to the Vatican) had offered his Holiness the Pope a haven in the United States. The White House later denied Rome reports that his Holiness the Pope had been offered a refuge in the United States.
SENATE DEBATE HITLER ALREADY AT. WAR WITH U.S.A. FIFTH COLUMN ATTACK. (Received This Day, 10.30 a.m.) WASHINGTON, June 6. Countering Senator Pepper’s renewed proposal to aid the Allies, Senator Lucas, in the Senate, asked what would be the position if Herr Hitler declared war on the United States as the result of such action. In reply Senator Pepper said: “It would not change the situation. Herr Hitler is already at war with us, at war with the world, at war with South America. He sent the fifth column to United States. That is intervention.”
