IN INTENSITY OF BATTLE EXTENSION ON BOTH WINGS. SIGNS OF PREPARATION IN CHAMPAGNE. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 8.55 a.m.) LONDON, June 6. A military spokesman stated that the battle was resumed this morning, with the same intensity and had even been extended on the two wings. The Germans, in addition to yesterday’s three thrusts in the regions of Amiens, Peronne and Ailette, attacked on the lower Somme and launched a heavy artillery bombardment in the Champagne region, which seem§ to be the preparation for an attack. The new French system of anti-tank defence on the whole. was successful and nearly all the support points were held. There were a number of destroyed German tanks behind the French front night, which had succeeded in penetrating the defences, but had not been followed by supporting units.
