SECURITY BENEFITS
NO REDUCTION INTENDED. ASSURANCE BY MINISTER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day., An assurance that no reduction in the benefits under the Social Security Act would be made because of the war was given yesterday by the Minister of Social Security, Mr Parry. "The Social Security legislation will be kept intact,” said Mr Parry. “I feel that the men who have gone overseas believe that the benefits which either their parents or dependants and others are receiving are part and parcel of the country’s security and that any interference with the benefits would be unjustified.” The Government had nothing in mind which would force men off sustenance, the Minister said in reply to a question. The maintenance and increase of the productivity of the Dominion would automatically mean that men now on sustenance would be more readily absorbed in filling the places made vacant by men going into military camps. The indications were that the charge on sustenance benefits would be reduced.
