OVERTIME PAY
ALLOCATED TO WAR FUNDS. SCHEME IN CHRISTCHURCH FACTORIES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. June 6. A scheme which should be an inspiration to industry throughout the country, and by which production is increased and patriotic causes assisted, lias been adopted in Christchurch by a group of four factories which are banded together under one central management. The employees of these factories have agreed to work an extra four hours a week at double pay. The amount involved is £2OO each week. This money will be administered by a committee of employees in each factory. It will be used to further patriotic causes and the committee will decide what is to be done with it. The factories concerned are Perry's Shoes, Ltd., British Shoes. Ltd., British Leathercraft, Ltd., and Eans, Ltd., all of which are linked together through a centralised management by the firm of Thomas Perry and Sons. Ltd.
The scheme begins this week. One of its. chief advantages is that the workers are enabled to make a substantial contribution to the war drive without making a sacrifice by contributions which they cannot afford from their wages. There is no encroachment on the worker’s weekly pay and the production of the four factories, which includes a proportion of military material, is greatly increased.
