Mrs Kirk, of Wellington, spent the weekend in Masterton. Miss Mearns, Wellington, is staying at the Hotel Midland, Masterton. Mrs G. Moore, Waikaraka, is staying in Masterton. Misses White (Petone) and M. O'Shea (Wellington) are the guests of Miss Joyce Ebbett, Makomako.
Mr and Mrs A. P. Bennett, Renall Street, Masterton, have returned from a visit to Wellington. Mrs P. J. Borthwick, “Eridge,” Lansdowne, has returned to Masterton from a visit to Australia.
Miss M. Robinson, Queen Street, Masterton, has left Masterton to take up nursing in a private hospital at Upper Hutt. Miss Inez Taylor, Te Wharau, has received notice that she has passed her final Karitane examination with honours. >
Mrs Boyes, Halswell Street, Wellington, who has been staying with Mrs W. E. Vowell, Essex Street, Masterton. has returned home.
Miss N. Moore, of Whangarei, has been spending a few days with Miss Payton, Victoria Street, Masterton, prior to visiting Mrs Eldon Moore, Wellington. The death occurred at Wellington yesterday of Mrs Theresa Penny, relict of the late Mr Burton Penny, and who was well known in the Wairarapa, nt the- age of 91 years. Colonel G. Barclay, Chief Commissioner of the St John Ambulance Brigade, has announced the following appointment: Lady Cadet Superintendent M. E. Barrel - , Te Ore Ore Cadet Nursing Division. Miss Helena Keith, familiarly and affectionately known to hundreds of Maori and pakeha friends as “Nurse,” has died at the old Mission House, Te Aute. Born in Edinburgh and brought up by the well-known philanthropists Misses Stuart, sisters of the late Bishop Stuart of Waiapu, she was trained for some time in a London hospital. Then she went to Napier with Miss Stuart and soon after her arrival nursed Miss Lydia Williams through a long and severe illness. She became a member of the household at Te Aute and continued so till the present, a period of 51 years.
