UNCEASING ATTACKS
MADE BY ROYAL AIR FORCE DAY AND NIGHT OPERATIONS BOMBING IN THE RHINE VALLEY. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day. 11 a.m.) RUGBY, June 4. The Air Ministry announced tonight that R.A.F. fighters maintained offensive patrols throughout yesterday and early this morning in the Dunkirk area. Little enemy air activity was observed. Large forces of our heavy bombers were in operation throughout the night. Attacks were made on troops advancing towards Dunkirk from the south and on enemy batteries that were shelling the port. In Germany refineries, oil tanks, supply depots and marshalling yards in the Ruhr Valley, in Rhenish Prussia and in the neighbourhood of Frankfurt were among the important milL tary objectives attacked. Aerodromes, occupied by the enemy in north-west Germany and in Holland were also bombed One of our bombers is missing.
Throughout yesterday Coastal Command aircraft were engaged in patrol reconnaissance duties in support of the combined operations off the French coast. One of these aircraft failed to return. During last night, aircraft of this Command made further bombing attacks on enemy petrol stores in Belgium and Holland. All the planes returned safely. Medium bombers, operating from France, continue to harrass enemy communications in south Belgium. Two enemy fighters were destroyed in this district by our fighters two of which are missing.
