The Secretary to the Treasury, Mr H. Morgenthau. announced that ho had discussed with Mr Edsel Ford and other automobile manufacturers the possibility of producing standardised aviation engines for both the United States and the Allies. Senator White told the Press that the Allies should be given full assistance. “As a starter,’’ he said, “we should close the German Embassy and send the Germans home; likewise the Italians if they come into the war. They are not serving a useful purpose here except to their own Government.”
