NEARLY £3000
MASTERTON SICK & WOUNDED APPEAL. CONTRIBUTIONS STILL COMING IN. The appeal for funds, on behalf of sick, founded and distressed soldiers, by the New Zealand Red Cross Society and the Order of St. John still continues to bring in donations and offers of goods. The Mahunga Golf Club handed in a very substantial donation. It included £lO from entry fees for weekend competitions and £22 4s 6d raised by the auctioning of the trophies which were handed back by the winners for that purpose.
The Savage Club sent in a donation of over £3 as the results of its first regular effort at its Koreros for pattiotic purposes. Another generous gentleman has offered a cord of 4 foot lengths of matai to be delivered free any where in theborough. Offers for this will be received at the office, Page’s Buildings, ’phone 1963. Offers for the gig should also be made in the same way. All those who donated material for the stock drive will receive letters of thanks from the committee. Among the larger contributions to this were 100 fat lambs from Mr J. Morrison, 100 fat wethers from Mr C. A. Cameron, and 50 fat wethers from Messrs R. F. R. Beetham and Son, Brancepeth, the last realising 21s 6d each. At noon today £2990 12s 5d was the total for the local fund.
