GRAIN AND PRODUCE
CANTERBURY MARKETS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, June 1. Business in the grain and produce markets has been very quiet, with no changes in prices since early in the week. There is very little inquiry for potatoes, and the amount of new business being done is small.
An export outlet for Canterbury sup • plies would be very welcome, but it seems that if the Australian embargo is to be lifted at all it will not be for some time yet, though Sydney merchants have reported that Australia will need 10,000 tons of potatoes this year. The Tasmanian price is still easing, the latest quotation showing a fail of 10s to £lO 10s. The local quotation to farmers is unchanged at £2 15s, to which it eased earlier in the week.
Inquiry for Italian ryegrass has been slightly firmer this week, because of the possibility of permits being given for the export of a limited quantity.
