GAME IN WAIRARAPA SURPRISE IN SENIOR COMPETITION. WESLEY DEFEAT HASTWELLS. As was anticipated, Wesley, showing improved form upset the senior competition on Saturday by defeating Hastwells at Lansdowne. Although
Hastwells were not at full strength, the Wesley team played well and no one player could be found superior to another. With the correcting of a few faults in team work Wesley should go bn improving. RESULTS AT A GLANCE SENIOR MEN. Carterton 6, Dalefield 3.

'Wairarapa College senior ladies was not played, owing to a misunderstanding in regard to the time for commencing the match. SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP WESLEY v. HASTWELLS.
In the match between Wesley and Hastwells at Lansdowne, Wesley attacked from the commencement and after 3 minutes play Cole opened the score with a very hot shot. Hastwells took play to Wesley’s cirI ele from the bully and had them in
i difficulties and a penalty corner resulted in Hastwells going very close to equalising. The play for the remainder of the spell was in Wesley’s favour. Hastwells conceded several penalty, corners, but no advantage was gained from them. However, just before half time was called Stevenson added to Wesley’s score with a good shot. Wesley 2, Hastwells 0. On resumption W’esley continued to attack and after about 10 minutes Stevenson again goaled. Hastwells then set up a determined attack and Dick put the ball in the net with a hot shot, but an infringement robbed them of the goal. Wesley’s defence was sound and it was riot until the closing stages
that Dick scored from a scramble in the circle. Wesley forwards again livened up just before time and Hastwells were again in trouble. Wesley were awarded a penalty corner but did not gain any further advantage, time being called with the score Wesley 3, Hastwells 1. Messrs Hayne and Cole were the umpires.
