STRUCK BY RAIL-CAR. AGED MAN’S REMARKABLE ESCAPE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) HAWERA, This Day. When a New Plymouth bound railcar was near Normanby station this morning, it collided with a horse and gig, driven by William Minhinnick. who had a remarkable escape from injury. He was taken to the hospital suffering from shock. The horse received the full force of the impact which broke the shafts, capsizing Minhinnick backwards on to the road. The horse was killed instantly and was dragged 60 yards before the rail-car was stopped. No damage was done Io the rail-car and the occupants were not injured. Minhinnick. who was one of New Zealand’s best athletes half a century ago. is now 92 years of age.
