SALE AT FEILDING. A QUIET TONE. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association.) ' FEILDING, May 31. A quiet tone prevailed at the Feilding stockyards today, with business' being backward in nearly every department. Ijjoth fat and store sheep were down in price. Fat sheep: The passings in this section were fairly heavy, because of the large entry and a modified demand. Ewes were down considerably in value, and wethers likewise failed to hold last week’s prices. Extra prime wethers made 28s to 30s, prime 25s 8d to 27s 4d, lighter 23s to 255; extra prime ewes 21s 8d to 22s 9d, prime 19s 6d to 21s 6d. average sorts 17s 6d to 19s light 13s to 17s; prime lambs 23s to 27s 4d, lighter prime 20s to 225, unfinished 15s to 19s.
Store sheep: Considering the quality of some of the pens, the prices realised were quite satisfactory. The tone of the sale, however, was not very brisk. The best of the two-tooth ewes, r.w. Southdown rams, made 24s to 255, others 21, with m.a. sorts at 21 4d; good five-year ewes r.w. S.D. rams, 19s Id, backward Ils 8d to 12s 6d, culls 8s lOd, forward two-tooth wethers 20s to 21s 2d, other lines 135.t0 15s lOd; good b.f. lambs, 17s 2d to 17s sd.
Dairy cattle: Winter milkers were yarded in smaller’ numbers, and where the quality was good prices remained firm. The best of the springing heifers made £8 15s to £lO ss, backward £5 to £6 15s; good springing cows £8 15s to £9 10s, second grade £7 to £7 10s. Store cattle: The demand in this section was practically nil. Fat cattle: Little change in beef values was shown, the small entry of light but well-finished station heifers meeting with a strong sale. Prime A.A. heifers made £6 2s to £6 10s; Jersey heifers, £4 to £5 15s; prime cows, £7 17s to £8 2s.
Pigs: A good demand was shown for all classes of pigs. The best of the weaners mads 10s 6d to 12s, slips 14s 6d to 17s 6d, stores 22s to 235, porkers £1 7s to £1 19s. CARTERTON SALE. FAT SHEEP PRICES INCREASE. Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd report as follows: —At the Carterton Sale yesterday we offered a good yarding of all classes of stock. Fat sheep showed a rose on previous sales while store sheep sold readily a+| late rates. A medium yarding of cattle, also sold well at late rates. Realisations were as follow:—
Sheep:—Fat lambs, 27s 6d, 275, 21s 6d, 19s 7d, 19s 6d; fat ewes, 16s 9d, 15s, fat b.f. two-tooths, 275, heavy 29s 4d; fat wethers, light, 19s Gd; ewe lambs. 20s. wolly wether lambs, 13s 2d, 10s-2d. 8s lOd, b.f. lambs. 16s 3d. 15s, 10s Gd, m.a. ewes r.w. S.D., 14s Gd; 5 year ewes r.w. S.D., 15s 7d. Cattle: Cow in milk. £3 10s. fat cows, £3 17s Gd, £3 16s, £3 10s, £3 ss. £3 7s Gd, £3 Is, £5. £4 Is; vealers, £2 15s, steers, £4 15s. Store Cows, £2 10s, £2. 38s, 375, 30s, 20, cows and calves. £5 17s Gd, bulls, £4 12s 6d.
