Germans, many of whom escaped in mufti, extensively demolished Narvik before abandoning the place. They also tried to wreck the railway to Sweden, destroying seven , engines and blowing up points and signals. Narvik Station still stands. The few civilian casualties demonstrate the accuracy of the British naval fire.
