SPECULATION BY BERLIN CORRESPONDENT.

The Berlin correspondent of the Associated Press of Great Britain says it is reliably stated that Hitler summoned Dr Goebbels, Minister of Propaganda, to general headquarters, and ordered him to prepare a sensational announcement. The correspondent adds that his informant expressed the opinion that the announcement concerned Italy’s entry to the war. No other sources of information carry the report. ORDERED HOME IMPERIAL AIRWAYS STAFF IN ROME. ROME, May 31. Imperial Airways has ordered its British staff to return to London. The liner Manhattan will sail tomorrow with 800 Americans. The President Harrison will sail on June 2 with a larger number, including priests and students. The Italian Government broke off negotiations with Britain concerning contraband control on Tuesday, May 28, Daventry reports. ITALY BREAKS OFF CONTRABAND CONTROL NEGOTIATIONS. IN SPITE OF AGREEMENT IN PRINCIPLE. (Received This Day, 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, May 31. It is authoritatively stated that, although the Anglo-Italian Committee last week reached an agreement in principle, Italy has broken off negotiations concerning contraband control.
