SIR STAFFORD CRIPPS
MISSION TO MOSCOW. SPECIAL DIPLOMATIC STATUS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. LONDON, May 29. It is authoritatively stated that Sir Stafford Cripps has gone to Moscow with a diplomatic special status. M Ivan Maisk/ (Soviet Ambassador) called on Mr R. A. Butler (Foreign Undersecretary), today and received an assurance that Sir Stafford Cripps's status is fully representative and authoritative. NOT ACCEPTABLE. ACCORDING TO MOSCOW RADIO. LONDON. May 29. The Moscow radio stated that the Government had informed Britain that Sir S. Cripps's mission was “unacceptable.” M. Molotov, through M. Maisky, told Britain that trade negotiations could be conducted through the British Ambassador (Sir W. Seeds), or any ambassador appointed in his place. Sir S. Cripps is understood already to have reached Athens en route to Moscow.
