ROGERS AND ASTAIRE

COMBINATION BROKEN UR. You can say good-bye to the As-taire-Rogers pictures—perhaps for ever. The Metro Studio having once again got Fred under its roof is not anxious to let him go again in a hurry. Last time they had him under contract they used him in one dance number in a Joan Crawford musical and dropped his option. The company’s test director had reported on him, “lacks looks, hair thinning on top. Dances.” Now they plan to follow up ‘'Broadway Melody of 1940” with another picture for him with Eleanor Powell, and the combination may become as permanent a studio fixture as the Jean-j ette MacDonald-Nelson Eddy team.
