METHODIST CHURCH

WOMEN’S AUXILIARY. ENJOYABLE GATHERING. A successful "Hostess Afternoon” was held in the Methodist Schoolroom yesterday afternoon. The room was tastefully decorated with large bowls of chrysanthemums, berries and winter foliage. Members of the executive wore shoulder sprays presented by Mrs J. Andrew.

The guests were received by Mrs H. S. Kings and Miss E. Beale. The proceedings opened with a speech of welcome by the Rev H. S. kings, followed by two much appreciated glees, "Nymphs and Shepherds” and "The Apple Woman,” by the League of Mothers’ Choir, led by Mrs Miller Hope. Mrs Leadley then entertained with two elocutionary items, "Women of the West” and “Mrs 'Arris; Makes a Jumper.” A mandolin solo with piano accompaniment, "Amphian Waltz,” was given by Miss E. Beale, who responded to an encore with "Soldiers of Fortune,” Mrs J. Dickson playing the accompaniment. Two duets, "In the Dusk of the Twilight” and “In the Springtime,” were nicely sung by Mesdames W. H. Snowsill and H. Speight.

Afternoon tea was served by a committee of ladies, after which Mrs Dickson delighted those present with her playing of "The Fairy Tales of Ireland” and "The Lilac Tree.” Mrs A. Church then rendered two fine poems, “The Crowd in the Road" and "The Master Came.” Extracts from a letter received from Dr and Mrs A. Rutter, missionaries of the Solomon Islands, were read by the Rev H. Kings. Mr Kings thanked the visitors, performers and hostesses who had all contributed to the success of the gathering.
