CHORAL SOCIETY FUNDS FOR PATRIOTIC PURPOSE. (“Times-Age” Special.) At a meeting of the Featherston Choral Society last night it was decided to donate the money in hand to the Sick, Wounded and Distress Fund.
WAIRARAPA LAKE DOMAIN
ANNUAL MEETING OF BOARD. The annual meeting of the Wairarapa Lake Domain Board was held in the Odd Fellows’ Hall last night and was presided over by the chairman, Mr J. W. Card. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs R. F. Watson and W. A. Tate. The report stated that all trees which required topping and trimming had been attended to. The lupins planted at the western end by the late Mr Wm. Benton were well established and were killing out the gorse. Several pounds of lupin seed had been collected and were sown between the eastern boundary and the main shelter sheds, this work being carried out by Mr N. C. C. Shepherd. Plantation fences required further attention, concrete fencing posts being recommended. Several minor repairs had been carried out to the fences during the year. The balance sheet showing a balance was considered satisfactory. Mr J. W. Card was re-elected chairman for the ensuing year.
RED CROSS APPEAL ENJOYABLE CARD PARTY. Yesterday afternoon a very pleasant time was spent at the residence of Mrs W. Jeffrey when 500 was played, the funds to go to the Sick, Wounded and Distress Fund. The winners were: Miss Eva Card, 1; Mrs Lynskey, 2. The raffle was won by Miss Connie Jeffrey. The serving of afternoon tea brought an enjoyable gathering to a close. The sum of £7 Ils 2d resulted from the dance held in Mr C. J. Nix’s woolshed at Tauherenikau. Post Office Hours. Commencing on June 8 the Post Office will in future obsei’ve the half holiday on Saturday afternoons. The Money Order and Savings Bank branch will close at noon, and the postal and telegraph branches at 12.30 p.m. The telephone exchange will be open continuously. On Saturdays the final outward dispatch of north and south bound mails will close at 12.15 p.m. Inwarci mails arriving after 12.30 p.m. on Saturdays will not be sorted till 8 a.m. on Mondays. Owing to the postponement of the observance of the King’s Birthday on Monday, the Post Office will be open in all branches as usual on that day. Football Teams. The Featherston juniors to play Martinborough at Martinborough at 2.30 p.m on Saturday will be picked from the following:—S. Morris, J. Loader, R. Playle, F. Playle, C. McKenzie, M. McKenzie, H. Frew, C. Morgan, B. Dick, G. Johnson, R. Houghton, C. Pike, O. Reid, B. Salisbury, A. Chisholm, J. Towersey, and C. Clemens. Cars leave the Cosy Theatre at 1.30 p.m.
Featherston thirds to play Carterton at Featherston at 2.30 p.m. will be picked from the following:—V. Bull, T. Matthews, A. Burt, J. Burt, J. Cross, E. Robb, H. Robb. R. Cade, W. Bilton, J. Foss, R. Plant, L. Veale. S. Benge, H. McKenna, A. McLeod, R. Rasmussen, W. Juno and R. Te Tau. Players are to assemble at the grounds no later than 2 p.m. Golf.
A medal round was played by the lady members at the Gun Grove links yesterday afternoon, the result being: Mrs R. Donald, 1; Mrs Connell, 2; Mrs Turnbull, 3. Reduced handicap: Mrs Donald. Personal. Mr and Mrs J. Brydon left yesterday for their new home near Otaki where Mr Brydon has taken a farm. On his return from Gallipoli. Mr Brydon was placed in charge of the military farm at Tauherenikau which he later acquired, and farmed successfully.
