HARRIER ACTIVITIES

KIATERE CLUB. NOVICE CUP RACE. The Kiatere Harrier Club will conduct its annual 3 and 1-8 mile race for the Novice Cup on Saturday, starting from the Solway showgrounds at 2.30 p.m. This race is held for runners who have never competed in harrier events before and also promoted juniors. Although at present there are only three starters the race looks as if it will be keenly contested. The senior runners will hold an 8mile training run in preparation for the . Dannevirke rally on Saturday week. The juniors will also hold a training run as they are to compete in a special junior race at Dannevirke. MASTERTON CLUB. SANDERS CUP CONTEST. The first inter-club race of the 1940 season will take place at Masterton on Saturday, when the Masterton Harrier Club will endeavour to regain the Sanders Cup from the Hutt Valley Harrier Club. The contest last year resulted in a win for Hutt Valley by the narrow margin of one point, and this year a similar race should be witnessed. A full attendance of local members it! especially urged. The race is timed to start at 2.30 p.m. A sealed handicap will be run in conjunction and prizes will be awarded to first and second place winners. Shaw Rose Bowl points will also count.
