REGENT THEATRE

“FAST AND FURIOUS.” Tonight’s change of programme at the Regent Theatre will be headed by “Fast and Furious,” featuring Franchot Tone, Ann Sothern, Ruth Hussey and Lee Bowman. This is one of the best comedies ever brought to the screen. Witty dialogue and innumerable farcial situations not usually associated with crime are most entertaining features of “Fast and Furious,” the facetious mystery film which traces further adventures of the Sloans, a young married couple whose love for each other is overshadowed by their love for tracking down criminals. It is a story which will at once appeal and which 'will hold the tense interest of the audience from start to finish. It is the uproarious sequel to those brilliant comedies, “Fast and Loose” and “Fast Company,” but outclasses both of them in the matter of merit. Tone and Miss Sothern, as Joel and Garda Sloane, become involved in a double murder mystery while on their' vacation at a seaside resort. Tone’s best friend, played by Lee Bowman, is. held for the murder and the plot revolves abound the former’s efforts to free him. To add to the entertainment possibilities, the entire action takes place during a beauty pageant, and Tone gets himself in trouble with Miss Sothern by accepting a position as a beauty judge. After many happenings, some nearly disastrous, the actor solves the crimes and also squares himself with his wife. Spectacular numbers involving the use.of the many bathing beauties in the story are studded throughout the picture and reflect the years Director Busby Berkeley spent arranging such numbers for big Broadway shows. The cast includes Ruth Hussey, Allyn Joslyn, John Miljan, Bernard Nedell and Mary Beth Hughes. An excellent array of featurettes include the latest Air Mail News, a new number of the Crime Doesn’t Pay series, a Metro miniature, and an outstandingly beautiful all-colour cartoon. “The Blue Danube,” featuring the famous waltz. Plans are at Nimmo’s and the theatre.
