SICK AND WOUNDED

STOCK SALE & STREET APPEAL. PROGRESS OF MASTERTON CAMPAIGN. The stock sale organised on behalf of ihe New Zealand Red Cross Society and Order of St John is taking place at the stockyards today. In addition to other means of contact with farmers Miss O. R. Sutherland spoke to sons of farmers at Wairarapa College on behalf of the drive for stock and apart front offers to the committee some results are directly attributable to this effort including half a cord of wood from a West Taratahi farmer. Another interesting donation was received at the office through the St Andrew Society. They forwarded a letter containing a donation of £1 with the message “In aid of comforts for soldiers from ‘Twa Scots’.” It is to be hoped that no person in town, today will refuse to buy the badges by which a very large sum has been obtained in all other centres where they have been on sale. Masterton’s total to date , £1,744 10s Bd, compares more than favourably with many of similar-sized districts but the committee hopes that it will be still further swelled by the end 'of this week.
