PHYSICAL WELFARE
MASTERTON SUB-COMMITTEE MEETING.
MOVE TO SECURE BOWLING FACILITIES.
At a recent meeting of the Masterton sub-committee of the Physical Welfare and Recreation Branch, the main topics for discussion were the campaign to introduce bowls as a summer recreation for women in the district, the formation of a folk dance group, and the proposal to erect a community centre. Each of these projects.will receive the full support of the women's organisations represented on the committee.
Mrs Miller Hope and Mrs Shouler were suggested as additional members of the committee, the former to provide a link with the musical enthusiasts and the latter to assist with the bowling project. Mrs Miller Hope needs, no introduction to the musical community in Masteyton as her connection with so many organisations and groups shows. Mrs Shouler, a fairly recent arrival in Masteton from Palmerston North, was a very enthusiastic member of the Hokowhitu Ladies’ Bowling Club and is equally enthusiastic about the plan to introduce bowling for women in Masterton. The question of allowing women to play as members of the Park Bowling Club is to be discussed at a special meeting of the club shortly. >- The Physical Welfare and Recreation Branch considers this movement a very valuable contribution to the ?:e--crealiopal and social life of the community so it is hoped that the Masterton ladies will seize the opportunity of linking up with similar movements throughout New Zealand by introducing bowling into the sporting activities for women.
The community centre project is one that recommends itself to all organisations in the district and as such will be fully supported by the women's sub-commitlee.
