CARTERTON

ORDER OF ODD FELLOWS LOYAL HEART OF OAK LODGE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The half-yearly meeting of the Loyal Hjeart of Oak Lodge was held last evening. Bro C. E. White, P.G., presiding. The secretary of the Red Cross Society, Carterton, wrote asking for a donation toward the appeal for Sick, Wounded and Distress Funds. It was decided to make a grant of £2 2s. The Secretary of the Wellington Hospital Association wrote enclosing refunds to members to the extent of £ll Bs. '

Sick pay totalling £l7 3s 4d was ordered to be paid and other accounts amounting to £46 7s 6d were passed for payment. The Grand Secretary of the N.Z. Branch wrote enclosing a circular in connection with war measures whereby benefits will be given to members who are on service overseas.

A motion, “That the Social levy be increased from 3d to 6d per quarter for the purpose of members who leave on service overseas whereby it can be used for social purposes was carried, and will take effect from the next quarter. The increase is only intended to operate during the war period.

The election of officers resulted as follows: —N.G. Sister, M. E. Eagle, P.G.. V.G. Sister F. Eagle; E.S. Bro G. S. Bruce, P.G., Warden, Bro A. R. Tankersley, P.G.; Conductor, Bro H. J. Rathbone, P.G. It was resolved that the installation of officers take place on the next Lodge night, and that the Wairarapa members of the District Management Committee and Sister Lodges jn the 'Wairarapa be asked to attend. The arrangements for an installation socila were left to the secretary to arrange.

Several members were advanced to the Second Degree by the Lecture Master.

The retiring I.P.N.G. was thanked for his services while passing through the chairs of the lodge. His name is to be placed upon the Honours Board, and he will be' the recipient of a Past Officers’ diploma on the next lodge night. Arrangements were made for seven or eight Past Grands to be present at a meeting to be held at Pahiatua on Wednesday, June 5. A DRUIDS’ BALL SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. Despite the inclement weather that prevailed last evening there was a very large attendance at the annual ball held by Totara Lodge of Druids in the King’s Theatre, Carterton. Visitors were present from all over the district and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The music was supplied by Udy’s Orchestra. The interior of the hall was effectively decorated ■ with many flags lent by the Carterton Borough Council, W.F.C.A. and the Carterton Racing Club. Members of the Order and kindred societies wore regalia of their lodges. Bros. Hector Bassett, H. Torrey, H. Murrell and H. Bain were efficient M’s.C., and under their guidance dancing was kept going spiritedly throughout the evening. Three sittings were accommodated at supper and those in charge did their work expeditiously. The takings at the door totalled £4O, and with donations, etc., the total amount should reach the vicinity of £6O. Extra dances were played by Miss M. Herrick and Messrs D. Irwin, T. Udy and H. Murrell. GOLF MEN’S CLUB COMPETITION. The Carterton Golf Club members took part in a medal round. The best cards handed in being: G. S. George 70-3-67; S. Hill 84-16-68, J. V. Gustofson 86-16-70. W. R. Harry 94-24-70, B. Booth 74, 3-71. R. Harrington 81-10-71, R. W. Roydhouse 81-11-71, H. Dudson 76-4-72, J. Lawrence 87-15-72. B. Beaven 87-14-73, Geo Brown 85-11-74, J. Steel 80-5-75. J. Dwane 91-15-76. Messrs Whitburn and Gustofson, holders of the Hill and Hughes Buttons, successfully stalled off a challenge’ from Riggs and Harrington at the 14th hole. LADIES’ GAMES. following are the results of the ' dies’ matches played at the Taratahi L^^ks:—Stableford bogey, Miss J. Booth 32 points, Miss Lamb 31, Mrs Pointon 30. Miss Armstrong 29, Mrs Dwane 29. Mrs Moroney 29, Mrs Colson 29, Miss P. Renall 29, Mrs Goodin 29, Mrs N. Renall 28, Miss I. Corlett 28. Miss Gfampbell 28. Bogey match: Miss Lamb, ■Mrs Moroney and Mrs Colson each 5, down, Mrs Dwane 6 down, Miss Campbell 8 down, Miss Booth 9 down, Mrs Pointon, Miss I. Corlett and Miss P. Renall 9 down. At a meeting of the ladies’ committee it was decided to hold an all day competition on Monday, June 3. commencing at 10 o'clock with a medal round. Partners will be arranged at the club house. A levy of 6d for the Red Cross appeal will be made. Pre-Wedding Party. The Parkvale Hall was comfortably filled when a “parcel evening’’ was tendered to Miss N. Wadham in honour of her approaching marriage with Mr C. Johnston. Dancing was enjoyed to music supplied by Mrs V. J. Ashton and Mr G. Harding. A Monte Carlo dance was won by Mr R. Warrington and Miss Jacobson, of Masterton, and a Lucky spot wait by Mr L. Herrick and Miss R. Howie. Mr D. Jensen was an efficient M.C.. and at a suitable interval in the proceedings called upon Miss Wadham to open the many parcels, which she did amid applause. Mr C. Johnston, on behalf of Miss Wadham, suitable returned thanks. Supper was provided by the ladies. Red Cross Shop Day. The Carterton branch of the Red Cross Society will hold a shop day in Carterton on Friday. The executive would be grateful for donations of cakes, and produce.
