WOMAN FOUND DEAD
SUFFOCATION INDICATED
AS RESULT OF SMOKING IN BED.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. When firemen entered a house at 35, Rosewarne Street, Spreydon. at midnight, they found an elderly woman. Edith Ellen McLeod, dead in bed. the room being filled with smoke. When the door was burst open the smouldering mattress burst into flames, but the fire was quickly suppressed. It is thought that the woman, who was alone in the house, had fallen asleep while smoking in bod and had been suffocated by the smouldering mattress.
