BIG PIG SALE
FINE LOT OF ANIMALS OFFERED. SOME HIGH PRICES PAID. Mr W. H. Bird, of Mauriceville, has just returned from a visit to the Waikato where he attended a pedigree pig sale held on account of Mr T. R. Rogers, Ngaruawahia. The sale was considered to be the largest one of its kind ever held in New Zealand and buyers were in attendance from all parts of the North Island. Two hundred pedigree pigs were offered. Mr Bird said he had never seen such a large crowd at a pig sale nor had he seen a finer lot of animals. It was a wonderful sale throughout and any animal of particularly good quality was keenly sought after. The top price of the sale was lOlgns, paid for a Berkshire sow and a litter of nine by a Rotorua buyer. A Berkshire boar changed hands at 59gns, going to an Australian purchaser. Maiden Tamworth and Berkshire sows, due to farrow early, sold from 18 to 25gns and Large Blacks from 23 to 45gns. Mr Bird purchased a maiden Tamworth sow at 18gns.
