Territorial Parade. There will be a parade of C Company, First Hawke’s Bay Regiment in the Masterton Drill Hall tonight. Masonic Lodges’ Dance. There was a large attendance at the dance held by the combined Masonic lodges in the Masonic Hall, Masterton, on Saturday night, and a very enjoyable time was spent to music supplied by Udy’s Orchestra. Supper was provided by the ladies. Interhouse Dance.

There were about three hundred present at the Wairarapa Interhouse dance held in the Municipal Hall on Saturday night. The music was supplied by Jack Barnes’s Rhythm Boys, and Mr J. Bruce carried out the duties of M.C. A feature of the dance was the excellent supper arrangements. 500,000 Daffodil Blooms.

Forty thousand more daffodils given by citizens have been planted in the “woodland” area of Hagley Park, Christchurch, according to the report for April of the Director of the Botanic Gardens (Mr J. A. McPherson). The total number of bulbs planted is now 340,000, and, allowing for natural increase, more than 500,000 blooms are expected next spring. “Artificial Riverbed.”

A petition, decoratively engrossed on good paper, was received by the Riccarton Borough Council from the residents of Marlborough Street, one of the highways in the borough. The residents, 46 in number, asked the council to tar-seal the street as soon as possible. The street was described in the petition as, “that artificial riverbed. Marlborough Street.” It was decided to reply stating that the work would be done next year. Exhibit of Old Stamps.

A topical exhibit for the centennial of adhesive postage stamps has been arranged at the Canterbury Museum. The Christchurch Philatelic Society has lent material, including a black stamp of Id value and a blue stamp of 2d value issued on May 6, 1840; and two Mulready envelopes (envelope and stamp combined) of 1842 and 1844. From the museum collection are included used stamps and envelopes of 1861 and 1871, the first being used in a letter from Sir Frederick Weld to John Robert Godley and postmarked at Auckland and London. This stamp is brown, bears a full-face marking, and is of . a domination of Cd. The other envelope and stamp were used in a letter from an American whaleman to relatives in Massachusetts, and bear Russell, Auckland, and San Francisco markings. This stamp is of the same type as the previous one.
