MASTERTON CLUB TRAINING RUN ON SATURDAY. PROMISING FORM SHOWN All types of country was experienced on Saturday when 14 members of the Masterton Harrier Club held a training run over the golf links hills. A steady pace was set from the start, and was well maintained throughout. W. M. Sellar. G. Ready, R. Wyeth and Roy Shaw are showing promising form at present, with S. L. Hatch not far behind. Next Saturday the first inter-club race for the Sanders Cup will lake place when the Hutt Valley team will defend the trophy. A good attendance of Masterton runners will be necessary if the local club wishes to regain the cup. KIATERE CLUB FALLOON ROSE BOWL. WIN FOR W. TEAHAN. On Saturday, under ideal conditions, and in the presence of a good attendance of enthusiasts, the Kiatere Harrier Club held the annual four-mile open handicap race for the rose bowl presented by Mrs R. C. Falloon. The juniors held a 3 1-8 mile race for a trophy presented by Mr A. Summers as first prize and a novelty prize given by Mrs Falloon for second place.. G. Laing was first away followed by J. Hodgetts. Then came I. Summers closely attended by S. Pickett and lastly F. Sexton, off 10 seconds and N. Jacobsen off scratch. After a mile had elapsed. S, Pickett, running a greatly improved race, caught the limit men, and went on to win easily from G. Laing, who must be credited with a very game performance. He was followed by N. Jacobsen, who made a strong effort over the last mile, then came I. Summers, J. Hodgetts and F. Sexton. The seniors were then dispatched by Mr W. Ashworth (time-keeper), and C. Summers. A. Mackenzie. J. L. Burns, and L. Bird and / later O. Gaskin (15secs). The middle handicap men were led by L. Francis., followed ssecs 'later by R. Searancke and then S. Nelson off (1.10), who was followed by W. Burns and R. Greeks off scratch. W. Teahan, O. Gaskin, J. L. Burns and C. Summers were the leaders at the end of the first lap, followed 300yds away by L. Frances, who was closely attended by R. Searancke. The backmarkers were then beginning to make an impression on the limit men and R. Greeks, who was running very strongly, looked like getting into a place. Halfway round the second time, W. Teahan, who was running with perfect ease,- began to draw away from his co-markers. L. Frances then started to move up, and made a great effort to catch the leader over the last mile, but Teahan broke the top with 100yds to spare. The third place went to R. Greeks who came through well in the second lap. This runner also got fastest time. O Gaskin was fourth, followed by W. Burns, who finished strongly, J. I. Burns. R. Searancke, C. Summers, S. Nelson, A. Mackenzie and L. Bird. The two latter runners are both new members, and did well to finish the course. The results were as follow:—Seniors: W. Teahan (3.30), 28min, 1 L. Frances (1.50), 28.33. 2; R. Greeks (scr), 28.48, 3; O. Gaskin (3.15). 29.7. 4. Fastest times: R. Greeks, 24.48, 1: W. Burns. 25.25, 2: L. Frances. 26.23, 3; R. Searancke, 27.23. 4.

Juniors: S. Pickett (3.15), 22.5, 1; G. Laing 14.30), 22.15, 2; N. Jacobsen (scr), 23.4, 3; I. Summers (3.30). 23.45. 4. Fastest times, N. Jacobsen. 18.34. 1; F. Sexton. S. Pickett. 20.50, 2; G. Laing. 22.15, 4. After the race Mr A. L. Askew, the club's president, presented the trophies. The trophy for second place in the senior event was donated by the club and a fastest time trophy was donated by Mrs Falloon. In the'bourse of the presentation, Mr Askew thanked the donors of the various trophies. Next Saturday the club will hold the annual race for the Novice cup, while the rest of the seniors will have an eight-mile training run in preparation for the Dannevirke rally on June 8. The juniors will also hold a training run.
