Winsome Lu Successful. The favourite. Classform, was relegated to second place in the Foxton Cup on Saturday by Winsome Lu. but only narrowly, and with a bit of luck she would have won. Classform was in the rear early, and running up down the back about five furlongs from home, she was over a considerable amount of extra ground on the turn. She had hit the front at the straight entrance, and even then might have won had she come straight home, but she veered over to the rail, and Broughton, who had ridden a more patient race on Winsome Lu, got to her, and in a. flat out finish beat her by a short head. Dark Eagle, who received an interrupted passage, finished on for a fair third. Valiant Lady’s Success. Valiant Lady, .a warm favourite for the Trial Stakes at the Foxton meeting on Saturday, won in a brilliant manner. She was for a time seriously threatened by Great Fair. Valiant Lady was always in a winning position in behind the two leaders, Haughty Rival and Dark Water, and when she ran to the front in the straight it looked like a comfortable win. Great Fair, however, had moved up from the back round the turn, and Valiant Lady had to be ridden right out to hold him off. Dark Water weakened for third, and Vienna was fourth, followed by Oraiti, Doctor Defoe, Haughty Rival. Royal Fleet and Spearthorn. The winner car-
ried 31b over. Wanganui Rehandicaps. Mr H. Coyle has made the following rehandicaps for the Wanganui meeting:—Purua Hack Hurdles. —Segra. 9.9; Connolly Handicap.—Winsome Lu, 8.6; Winter Oats.—Nelumbo, 8.4. Jockey Premiership. At Foxton on Saturday Broughton rode two more winners and his nearest rivals, Morris and Wiggins, rode one each.
