CARTERTON SALE. GOOD DEMAND FOR FAT CATTLE Messrs Wright, Stephenson & Co., report on their Carterton sale as follows: To a smaller attendance than usual we offered a small yarding of sheep and pigs and a medium yarding of cattle. Fat cattle sold well, sheep were slow, probably owing to the bad weather and small yarding, while porkers and baconers sold readily at late rates. Realisations are as follow: — Sheep: Fat lambs, 17s 6d; B.F. lambs, Ils Id; wr lambs, 13s Id. Pigs: Weaners, 14s, 12s, 10s 6d; slips, 16s 6d; baconers, £3 10s, £2 10s; porkers, £2 Ils, 425, 355, 31s, 295, 28s to 245; e. sows, £2 12s 6d. Cattle: Spg cows, £l4; heifer in milk, £6 to £4; heifer £9 9s; fat cows, £7 2s 6d, £6 ss, £5 15s, £5 12s 6d, £5 9s, £5, £4 17s 6d to £3 ss; store cows, £3, £2'los, £2 2s to 255; bulls, £6 ss. FEILDING SALE. SHEEP VALUES FIRM. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) FEILDING, May 24. Sheep values' held firm at today’s sale in Feilding, when again there was a moderate entry of good-quality material. Cattle prices remained low. Fat sheep: Mutton came forward in substantial supply, and, generally, in good finish, the demand holding firm throughout. Extra prime wethers made 28s to 30s 6d. prime 25s 7d to 27s lOd, extra prime lambs 275.
Store sheep: Breeding ewes of good quality found a ready sale at fully firm prices, while a good selection of lambs was equally firm. Good four-tooth ewes, a-.w. Southdown rams, made 30s Id, six-tooths 27s 3d, good m.a. ewes 225, very good four and five-year ewes 21s lOd to 22s 9d, others 15s lOd to 21s; best four-year ewes 21s 6d, poor 17s; extra good five-year ewes 20s 6d; b.f. lambs, 12s lOd; good wether lambs 17s 3d. Dairy cattle: Springing cows of good quality showed a sharp advance in price. The heifers forward were only of moderate quality, but sold well. Extra good cows made £ll 5s to £l2 10s; backward calves, £4 10s to £6 10s; best springing heifers, £8 10s to £9 7s 6d; others, £4 4s to £7 10s; heifer in milk, £4 ss.
Store cattle: Very little business was done in the station-stock line, a few odd lots changing hands only. Works cows were still backward in price.
Fat cattle: A fairly strong entry of beef cattle was offered, and met with a steady demand at unchanged prices. Pigs: A very light entry of pigs changed hands at late rates. Good vealers made 15s to 18s; stores, 19s 6d to 24s 6d; light porkers, 295.
