CARTERTON
WOMEN’S DIVISION SUCCESSFUL SHOP DAY. ("Times-Age” Special.) A very successful shop day was held in Carterton by the members of the Carterton branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers’ Union yesterday. The sum of ,£2O was taken of which £6 is to be sent to the Division Rest Home at Flock House, Bulls, while the remaining £l4 is to go to the War Fund. The competitions resulted as follows: —Turkey: Mrs Berry. Dinner: Neville Walsh. Personal. Mr and Mrs W. Abbott, who have been resident at Chester Road, Clareville, for some years and who recently disposed of their farm, left Carterton yesterday afternoon en route for Feilding, their future home. Mr and Mrs-H. Moore, of Foxton, have been on a visit to Carterton during the past few days. Mr and Mrs Gordon Carruthers, of Wellington, are visitors to Carterton and are staying with Constable and Mrs W. C. Robertson. Charge Against Motor Cyclist. At the S.M. Court this morning before Mr P. A. Cole, J.P., Traffic Officer C. S. Nicholson charged Samuel Sturgess with having ridden a motor cycle on the Masterton-Carterton Road on May 24, while under the influence of liquor. Accused was remanded to appear at the Featherston S.M. Court or. May 29. Bail was allowed in his own recognisance of £lO. Accused must not ride his motor cyclo in the meantime. Druids’ Ball. The annual ball of Totara Lodge of Druids will be held in the. King's Theatre, Carterton, on Monday next. The Druids’ ball is always looked forward to by dancers. Although there have been many excellent and successful dances held by Totara Lodge, Monday night's gathering promises to eclipse all others. Strong ladies’ and men’s committees have been working hard for some time past and everything points to a very successful ball. Udy’s Dance Orchestra will supply the music. The supper arrangements will be in the hands of a ladies' commitR.S.A. Ball. The Carterton branch of the R.S.A. will hold their annual ball 'in the King’s Theatre on Monday, June 24. Past gatherings of a similar nature held by the R.S.A. have always been successful and as part of the proceeds will be devoted to the Red Cross Society the ball this year should be well patronised
