Messrs C. P. Knightson (Napier), C. J. Vylane, J. J. Gigges (Wellington) are staying at the Prince of Wales Hotel, Masterton. The Hon W. Nash, Minister of Finance, who will visit Australia next week to discuss with the authorities there questions of mutual interest to the Commonwealth and the Dominion, will leave Auckland for Sydney by flying-boat on Monday. Mr Nash may return to New Zealand the same week if he is able to transact all his business in time, but if not he will probably be away from the Dominion for about ten days. The death occurred in Melbourne on May 10 of Mr Rupert J. Cooke, a wellknown Canterbury sportsman in the early part of this century. A very fine and powerful forward, he represented Canterbury at Rugby football from 1899 to 1903. He gained South Island honours in 1902 and 1903. and in the latter year toured Australia with what many critics agree was the best New Zealand team ever assembled. In addi-. lion to his Rugby ability, Mr Cooke was a champion cyclist, distance runner and amateur boxer. He went to Melbourne in 1913 and entered the hotel business.
