RIFLE SHOOTING KAIPARORO CLUB COMPETITION. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Kaiparoro Rifle Club fired over the 300yds ranges for a trophy donated by Mr G. N. Hansen. This was won by President C. Welch with a score of 68. Scores:—C. Welch, 300yds 34, 300 yds 34, handicap 2, total 68; A. Hansen, 33 33, 1, 67; J. Torrey 33, 31, 3, 67; K. Henson 30, 33. 2, 65; E. R. Whiteman 29 31 4, 64; R. Henspn 27, 31, 3, 61; P.’ Henson 30, 25, 3, 58; F. Schormann 26, 29, 1, 56. WOMEN’S DIVISION MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Eketahuna Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held yesterday afternoon. Mrs C. Welch presided over a fair attendance. ,It was unanimously decided to retain the help in the kitchen and to charge the usual price for afternoon tea. It was stated that one housekeeper was employed in the district and that £2 is now paid to senior housekeepers. It was reported that Mrs Gawith (president of the Countrywomen’s sub-branch of the Red Cross Society and St John Ambulance Brigade) had waited on the Wairarapa executive of the W.D.F.U. and asked for donations of good clean clothes for refugees. These clothes are sorted and re-made and sent to Wellington where they are forwarded to the various countries by the International Red Cross. Two hundred and forty garments had already been forwarded to headquarters. The Eketahuna branch had undertaken to collect parcels and these may be left at Mr Jesson’s place, and Miss Anderson will see that they are forwarded to their destination.

Mrs Stone-Wigg donated two copies pf Madame Curie and Katherine Mansfield to the division.

A war-time afternoon tea of biscuits and cheese was served by Mesdames G. Hansen and Brooks. The cheese was donated by Mrs Brookes.

WEDDING ASKEW—JESSON. The marriage was solernnised recently at St George’s Church, Seatoun, of Hilda Margaret, only daughter of Mr and Mrs G. Jesson, of Eketahuna, and Hugh’ie, son of Mr and Mrs J. A. Askew, of Nelson. The Rev Willis performed the ceremony. The bride, who was escorted by her brother, Mi- Alan Jesson, was attired in a rust-coloured jacket dress with felt hat and accessories to tone and wore a shoulder spray of orchids and maiden-hair fern. She was attended as bridesmaid by Miss Enid Bliss,, Carterton, who wore a lemon bolero frock and felt hat to match. Her shoulder spray was of pansies and maiden-hair fern. Mr C. Sandlant was best man.

A reception was held at the residence of Mr and Mrs Alan Jesson, Miramar. The guests were received by Mrs Jesson, who wore a navy frock with hat to tone, and Mrs Askew, mother of the bridegroom, who was dressed in a navy costume? Both carried posies of autumn flowers. The usual toasts were honoured.

Among the guests were Mr and Mrs J. Jesson, Mrs Warner Jones (aunt of the bride), Mrs Hawkins, Karori, Mrs Rex Jones, Mrs Baldyn Ewen, Miss Lilian Cooper (Rongomai), and Mrs T. H. Groves, Tawataia. The future home of Mr and Mrs Askew will be at Brooklyn, Wellington. Personal Items. The friends of Mr T. H. Groves, Tawataia, will regret to learn that he has been an inmate of a private hospital in Wellington. He has recovered sufficiently, however, to be moved to a convalescent home at Kilbirnie. Mr D. Fallaver, formerly of Eketahuna, again offered his services to the military authorities and he journeyed to Wellington for examination by the Military Medical Board but was classified as temporarily unfit. Miss Bougen, Christchurch, who has been the guest of her sister, Mrs R. Payne, Alfredton Road, has returned home. Mr and Mrs B. McAlister, Alfredton Road, have returned after spending a holiday at Otaki. Football Team. The following will represent the Eketahuna thirds against Nireaha at Nireaha on Saturday: Ryan, Taylor. Doney, Morrison, Fafeita, Steer (2), Ryan (3), Olsen, Cooper, Christensen, Braddick, Capes. Cars leave town at 1.30 p.m. sharp.
